چکیده

Antimicrobial resistance is a phenomenon of increasing importance, as demonstrated by the emergence of different international antimicrobial resistance surveillance programs. The aim of this research was to perform an antimicrobial resistance evaluation in indicator bacteria isolated from pigs and poultry in Chile. One hundred E s c h e r i c h i a c o l i and 80 E n t e r o c o c c u s species strains were isolated from fecal samples from pigs, and 99 E coli and 80 Enterococcus s p e c i e s strains were isolated from cloacal samples from poultry. The samples were analyzed using the dilution plates method. E coli strains showed a high percentage of antimicrobial resistance (>87%) in both animal species, with resistance to tetracycline and streptomycin being the most commonly Intern J Appl Res Vet Med • Vol. 3, No. 2, 2005 Financial support for this study was provided by Fondecyt 1030857, the Chilean national fund for scientific and technological development.

Isolation, Identification and Antimicrobial Resistance Patterns of E. coli Isolated from Chicken Flocks

Fifty E. coli strains isolated from chicken flocks were analyzed to determine their resistance to antimicrobial agents used in Tehran poultry industry. By using Mast Diagnostic kit only O6 serotype was identified. Multiple resistance to antibiotics was observed in all isolates. The highest rate of resistance was against Tetracycline (94%), followed by Rifampicin (90%), and Oxytetracycline (80%)...

Antimicrobial Susceptibility Profile of Enterococcus Species Isolated from Companion Birds and Poultry in the Northeast of Iran

Enterococci are Gram-positive facultative anaerobic bacteria commonly found in the gastrointestinal tract of the mammals and birds. These cocci are isolated from urinary tract infections, bacteremia, endocarditis, and burn wounds in humans. The evolution of antibiotic-resistant enterococci raised a problem due to the possibility of the transmission of these organisms between poultry and human. ...

Evaluation of lactic acid bacteria isolated from poultry feces as potential probiotic and its in vitro competitive activity against Salmonella typhimurium

The efficacy of probiotics as alternatives to antibiotics has been defined as one of the potential strategies to prevent Salmonella spp. infection in poultry. The purpose of this study was to isolate probiotic native Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) with high compatibility to intestinal tract and prevention of Salmonella typhimuriumfrom broiler chicken feces. Thirty-seven samples of...

Evaluation of Toxin and Antitoxin System in Acinetobacter Multidrug Resistance Bacteria Isolated From Clinical Specimens

Introduction: Acinetobacter baumannii is one of the most important nosocomial and community-acquired pathogens that is resistant to many antibiotics. Toxin-antitoxin systems are regulatory systems that maintain bacteria and serve as new targets for Antimicrobial therapies are considered. The prevalence and transcription of these systems in clinical isolates is still unknown. The aim of this stu...
